It was a little windy but pleasantly sunny and warm last Saturday. For the 59th World Wide SketchCrawl, USK Seoul members met at Okcheonam Hermitage, a small and peacefull temple in Hongeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Okcheonam Temple located at the foot of Samgaksan Mountain, and beneath the precinct Hongjecheon stream that flows throughout the year. The Temple dates back to the 14th century during the Goryeo dynasty. Lots of colorful Lotus Lanterns are beautifully embroidered on the temple and the street around the surrounding residential village. It was to celebrate the Buddha's Birthday on May 22. The temple buildings are built on narrow and steep bedrock linearly, and the natural combination of different architectures seems very interesting and beautiful features harmonized with the natural landscape. Especially the Rock-carved Seated Bodhisattva of Okcheonam Hermitage (Designation: Treasure No.1820) is famous for a large Buddhist image over five meters tall. The granite carving is concave and painted in a lovely seashell white, and so called "The White Buddah". Though the site of the temple is long narrow and rather small but the the precincts was crowded with Buddhists and visitors for lanterns ceremony to celebrate Buddha's Birthday.
On entering the temple, I was fascinated with the panoramic scenes of the temple and the neighboring village, including access bridge over the stream and curved overpass, apartment buildings, etc. I enjoyed sketching several colorful scenes around the small and peaceful temple at the foot of the mountain nearby downtown Seoul.

Last Saturday, the weather was a little cold and windy with fine dust all day. We Seoul urban sketchers met at Gocheok Sky Dome, the largest indoor baseball stadium in Korea, located in Gocheok-dong, west of Seoul. The day was the opening day of the professional baseball 2018 season. I've been to the stadium to sketch the colorful baseball game scenes for urban sketching two years ago. The Sky Dome and surroundings were crowded with lots of visitors, baseball fans, families on outing and many sports reporters. I enjoyed the festive atmosphere of baseball in and out the Sky Dome, sketching the impressive stadium and dynamic game scenes I didn't draw before. It was very exciting and pleasant sketch time with all participating sketchers!

The weather became warmer than early February, but it's still cold outside. We usk Seoul members met at an interesting museum for urban sketching last weekend. Seodaemun Museum of Natural History is the first public museum of natural history in Korea, located in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Opened in 2003, the museum displays the origins of life on earth through a variety of real specimens of minerals, rocks and fossils, and through models, including life size models of dinosaurs, from all over the world.
A few years ago I visited the famous museum several times and sketched a lot of exhibits in my spare time. The museum was crowded with children, their parents and student group at all time. Most of all, the exhibits of dinosaurs drew attention from visitors overwhelmingly. I sketched and colored the dynamic scenes inside the museum and some exhibits including large dinosaur skeletons with an "inquiring

It's been very cold and windy for several days this February. Yesterday, avoiding outdoor sketch in cold weather, I joined Seoul urban sketchers for indoor sketching at Starfield Library, newly opened in Starfield COEX Mall last year. Starfield COEX Mall not only is the largest underground shopping mall in Korea, but also is a shopping mecca for global luxury brands in fashion, beauty, accessories, and so on. Besides, the mall contains a lot of popular attractions including fantastic Starfield Library. The two-story library consists of three 13m tall giant bookshelves packed with countless books and magazines, and offers a pleasing environment for visitors to relax or to enjoy reading with its stylish reading tables and chairs. This place certainly is the new hot place for citizens and visitors to spend their free time. It's very fantastic subject to sketch diverse scenes through a huge space.
I sketched in and out the interesting library with various points in the crowd of people entering and leaving the Starfield COEX Mall. I had a valuable sketch time exploring various scenes of the open library.

The weather has been bitterly cold the past few days. Last Saturday for the 58th World Wide SketchCrawl, it's hard to sketch outdoors, Seoul urban sketchers met at the Seoul Citizens' Hall(시민청) inside Seoul City Hall building. Seoul Citizens' Hall is housed in the two basement levels of Seoul City Hall. The hall has been renovated as a public area for citizens and visitors. Exhibition, performances, seminars, concerts, special events, and wedding ceremonies take place here all year round.  It's a great place for sketchers to draw a lot of the amusing scenes regardless of weather. I sketched the vivid interior scenes including some musical performances with other sketchers. in an enjoyable atmosphere. We had a pleasant SketchCrawl in an enjoyable atmosphere!

Last Saturday, it was cold weather for sketching outdoors. Besides the fine dust has covered Seoul in recent days. Seoul urban sketchers met at Jongno Tower, a landmark building in downtown Seoul, and sketched comfortably inside the modern building. It was a weekend, so the office floors of the building were vacant and quiet to sketch without interruption. I sketched the spectacular scenes looking down through the window on the 8th and 20th floor inside the 33-story glass building. After lunch, I sketched an interior scene of the Jongno Bookstore, basement 2nd floor, and an outdoor scene in front of  the Jongno Tower.
Thanks all participants for having a pleasant sketch time!

Seoul Plaza is located by Seoul City Hall near the gleaming skyscrapers and the old palace.  Every season, Seoul Plaza hosts a lot of cultural events including concerts and exhibitions for the citizens and visitors. The plaza transforms into an outdoor skating rink every winter, a popular attraction in the city. The facility houses one rink for beginners and one for advanced skaters, and also hosts various events during its operating hours. There are also convenient facilities like skate rental, outdoor rest area, and outdoor standing area for ice skaters and spectators.
Seoul’s popular winter attraction Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink was opened last December 22. The rink will remain open until February 25, 2018 in accordance with the closing ceremony of  2018 Olympic Winter Games.
As most of you would know the Pyeongchang 2018 and Paralympic Winter Games will be on from Feb. 9 to Feb. 25 in South Korea.  Recently I sketched above scenes of the ice skating rink at the center of Seoul despite the cold weather. While sketching, I prayed for the success of the world festival in Korea.
Wishing all the global people to enjoy the winter sports games sharing friendship!
